It's About A Relationship!!!
By revtcr
An Overview
Start Here is exactly what its subtitles says, “Beginning a Relationship with Jesus.” The authors wrote the book primarily for new believers and for those who are seeking a relationship with Jesus. It is written in a friendly and theologically non-threatening style; that is, the reader is not overwhelmed with a plethora of theological terms, and when they appear, the authors either explain them in the text or in a footnote. The book is lively. It flows.
Start Here is comprised of seven chapters, with each chapter building on the other. For example, after the introductory chapter “God Stirrings,” the first chapter is “It Starts with Jesus,” which is then followed by “Obstacles” and “Receiving Jesus,” respectively. In addition, each chapter begins with real life story, something of a testimony, if you will, which serves as an introduction. Throughout, the authors weave their own life stories, as well.
A Critique
When I began to read Start Here for review, I quickly discovered that this was written for me as well. I constantly need to be reminded that life with Jesus is about a relationship with Him and not a relationship with a list of rules. He says, “Follow me,” not “follow this.” David and Nicole do a great job to stress a relationship with Jesus throughout their book. If I were to list a few strengths of the book, they would be: (1) Use of the Bible. David and Nicole interaction with the Bible is to be commended. (2) Use of Stories. As humans, we love a good story. David and Nicole are not afraid to use stories from their own lives to enrich the text. (3) And Use of Illustrations. When they are not using personal stories, David and Nicole utilize a few choice illustrations throughout. As a footnote, for someone who considers himself a sacramental Baptist, I like their section on the sacraments in chapter six, especially, let your spiritual life be natural, and let your natural life be spiritual.
Conclusion
For someone who reads his fair share of books (see here), I can actually count on one hand the number of books I’ve read that were written with new believers and seekers in mind–a few. Now I can add Start Here to this short list, a book (though not written primarily for someone who has been a follower of Christ for over 20yrs) which has reminded me that “Christianity is not so much something you believe but a relationship you enter” (p. 172).

A guidebook toward answers to life's deepest questions and a life giving pursuit of Jesus
By John G. Worden
Often people ask the deepest questions alone, not of anyone in particular but of our own selves so that we don't let on to others that we don't have all the answers. This is especially true of questions regarding life's purpose, faith, afterlife, religion, God, etc. These questions repeat in our minds and often in quiet solitary moments can create confusion and loneliness and even a sense of hopelessness when unanswered. If you have happened upon this book because you feel in inner stirring that there must be more to life than you know, you are in the right place. David and Nicole have put together a great how/to book that you can take with you into that place where you have been asking those meaningful deep questions and find some direction. I hope you will 1 click order now and enter into a journey toward very meaningful powerful answers and direction in life.
If you have happened upon this book because you are surrounded by people searching for answers to life's deepest questions or longing for something more in life and you struggle to share your faith or you feel like you don't know what to say; "Start Here" would be a great book to share. My mind can't stop thinking of the thousands of life stories that could be affected by this book. Life takes us all through experiences where we find ourselves and others searching for answers. If you are a person of faith in Jesus please share this book with anyone trying to make sense of their circumstance or trying to find meaning and purpose in their existence. Not only is the content that David and Nicole provide helpful, I'm certain your friends will find something personally meaningful in the life experiences that many other real people share in the book.
I'm so excited that I got my hands on this powerful book here on day 1 of it's existence and that I had time to read it cover to cover. I'm going to buy 50 copies to share with friends and the unknown people who I'm sure to meet in the coming days of my life that could benefit from this book and roadmap for life.

No matter where you are, Start Here is for you.
By Rachel Dawson
The words of this book are so real. David and Nicole tell their stories in the introduction before chapter 1 even starts, and they don't do it in any fancy or elite sort of way, they just tell you who they are and how their relationships with Jesus started. It's an honest conversation from the very first lines, and I love that. It's so very real.
Every chapter starts with a story from someone (also very real) who is a part of HOPE and a part of the body of Christ. Their stories are raw, they're normal, they're still being written. All their stories started somewhere, and God has kept writing better and better chapters as they've grown.
My story started a long time ago, and I was about 7 years old when I decided to dive in to my own real relationship with Jesus. But now, at 21, this book about starting a relationship with Jesus still resonated with me. I heard echoes of my story in the words of the stories on these pages. I was reminded of so much goodness about who God is and so much truth about how He wants to know me. I was drawn in, page by page, eager to uncover more.
It didn't matter that my relationship with Jesus started a long time ago. This book was still an authentic and encouraging reminder of what faith looks like.
This book is solid. This book is sound. This book comes straight from the Bible through the words of two people who love the Lord so evidently and are such incredible tools He is using to build the kingdom here on earth.
Bob Goff (author of Love Does) endorsed the book by saying this, and I wholeheartedly agree:
"The story about Jesus is a simple one; so is His message. This is a book that blows the foam off the top and gives His simple message uncomplicated, accurate freshness."
If you have no idea who Jesus is or what being a Christian means or looks like, Start Here. If you've known Jesus for 75 years, Start Here. If you're somewhere in the middle, pretty confused and not even really that interested, Start Here.
