Patrick Frank is assistant professor of art history at the University of Kansas. He is the author of Posada's Broadsheets: Popular Imagery in Mexico City, 1890-1910, and the coauthor of Artforms: An Introduction to the Visual Arts, now in its seventh edition.

Very cool book on Central American art and motifs

I love this book. There are all kinds of references to different works of art and contemporary plus modern art styles, they go into detail on what different elements mean, and that's helpful for people like me who are new at analysing art.

Admirable Accomplishment

Patrick Frank is obviously highly knowledgeable in his field yet skillfully unobtrusive in presenting these readings. His introduction lays out the context for Latin American art studies in a helpful, nuanced way that allows and fosters each selection to speak for itself -- a great quality for an editor! As the author says, "I hope this book is seen as a part of a wider effort to broaden our perspective on human artistic creation." A task he has admirably helped to accomplish!

Whether you are an afectionado or novice to Latino Art this text is invaluable in enriching one's knowledge base on this dynamic topic of the art world. It is as much a review and discussion of art and the evolutionary philosophy of the mestizo in the Americas, manifest in their art and the many human questions entertained by the meeting of two very distinct worlds. It was a pleasure and education to read.
